Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
Max. size:  20.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 850 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean and Western Central Pacific: off Dampier, Western Australia and off Cape York, Queensland. Western Central Atlantic: off Martinique (Ref. 12965) and Suriname (Ref. 13608).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-18; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 20-20. Membrane of dorsal and anal fins thin, rays clearly visible (Ref. 13608).
Biology:  Mesopelagic species (Ref. 75154).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 October 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
