Family:  Batrachoididae (Toadfishes), subfamily: Halophryninae
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 100 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Gabon to Angola. One specimen reported from off Walvis Bay, Namibia (Ref. 4107).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-19; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 13-15. Brownish but paler below; body with 3-4 brown cross bars, head with 2; head and body sometimes with brown spots (Ref. 4107).
Biology:  Occurs on the continental shelf (Ref. 3572). Feeds mainly on crustaceans (Ref. 3572). Marketed mainly fresh (Ref. 3572).
