Family:  Pomacentridae (Damselfishes), subfamily: Microspathodontinae
Max. size:  21 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 40 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: southeastern Australia (Capricorn Group, Great Barrier Reef to Bass Point, New South Wales), Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island, New Caledonia, and northern New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-19; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14
Biology:  Adults occur in lagoons and outer rocky reefs. Found only in the outer reef surge channels at the Capricorn Group in the GBR, but ubiquitous at Lord Howe Island (Ref. 9710). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 113699).
