Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 7 - 80 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: northwestern Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Description: Characterized by dark band behind eye; sides with cluster of large dark-edged white spots; base of soft dorsal and anal fins with large dark spot, outer portion of fins and caudal fin with smaller dark spots; lateral line scales 21-23 with additional 1-2 scales on caudal base; greatest depth of body 2.1-2.5 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Nocturnal species which occurs inshore (Ref. 7300). Inhabits trawling grounds. Mainly inhabits soft bottoms (Ref 90102).
