Family:  Ophichthidae (Snake eels), subfamily: Ophichthinae
Max. size:  72 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 155 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: off Durban, South Africa; north to Japan amd Taiwan.
Diagnosis:  Pale yellow, boldly marked with rich brown semicircular spots which are smaller and more numerous on head (Ref. 3972).
Biology:  Benthic (Ref. 58302). Digs itself into sandy areas. A carnivore (Ref. 9137).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 05 December 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
