Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 111 - 325 m
Distribution:  Pacific South West: currently known only from the Chesterfield Islands, Coral Sea, and northern Norfolk Ridge, Tasman Sea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal soft rays: 12-12. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D2 12-–13 (usually 12); A 12; pectoral fin rays 21-25 (mode 23); branched caudal-fin rays 8; anterior scales in the lateral line 2-4 with a spine; single preocular spine, absence of gill rakers on upper arch, ocular and interopercular flaps, and distinct antrorse lachrymal spines (Ref. 80495).
