Distribution:  South America: Guianas coastal rivers and the Amazon River basin.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Abundant and very ubiquitous; found throughout the length of rivers (Ref. 12225). Prefers slow moving waters of small creeks where the substrate can be very variable (sand, rocks, plant debris) (Ref. 12225).
