Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Gymnoscopelinae
Max. size:  13 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Generally ranges between about 40°S and 50°S. Its distribution in the south-western Atlantic can be correlated with 34.6 ppt isohaline at 200 m. In the Southern Ocean, known from 45°10'S, 69°12'E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-14
Biology:  Oceanic and mesopelagic (Ref. 4066). Juveniles found in the upper 100 m (night), adults mainly below about 200 m (night).
