Distribution:  South America: two whitewater lake systems on the Rio Solimões floodplain of central Amazonia (the Mamirauá lake system near Tefé, and Lago Janauacá near Manaus), Amazonas State, Brazil (Ref. 41292).
Diagnosis:  Deep body (body depth 11-13% TL versus 6-10) possessing very thin pale bands (less than 1/5 the width of the dark bands) with sharp (high contrast) margins. Bands are sinuous on the anterior half of the body, and extend clearly to the dorsal midline (Ref. 41292).
Biology:  Oviparous (Ref. 205). Males provide parental care in nests excavated for larvae (Ref. 55570).
