Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 123 - 200 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Komandorskii Islands and southeastern Kamchatka.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 85-88; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 69-75; Vertebrae: 88-94. Gymnelus diporus belongs to the group of species with widely interrupted supratemporal commissure. It is further characterized as not having a posteriorly shifted beginning of the dorsal fin, a narrow and long pectoral fin, short snout, color with multiple (up to 18) bands, and a small size (Ref. 36338).
