Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 55 - 1500 m
Distribution:  South Pacific: off Chile, southern Australia, and New Zealand. Southeast Atlantic: off Argentina. Also recorded from the channel between Marion and Prince Edward islands in the Indian Ocean sector of the Antarctic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 66-85; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 61-75; Vertebrae: 49-56. Body short, broad, covered by small deciduous scales, ending in a very small caudal peduncle; 20-23 modified scales on lateral line; gill chamber, mouth floor and lips without pigmentation; 49-56 total vertebrae; mouth subterminal (Ref. 31160).
Biology:  Inhabits continental and insular slopes (Ref. 5208), as well as seamounts (Ref. 31160). Minimum depth reported from Ref. 5208.
