Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 1175 - 1600 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific and South Atlantic: oceanic islands off New Zealand and in the mid South Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 75-89; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 73-84; Vertebrae: 56-59. Body deep; head large; caudal peduncle narrow; lower jaws included (overlapped by) upper jaws when mouth closed; interorbital very wide, 10.3-15.0% SL; barbel on chin very short, 0.3-1.0% SL; lining of mouth dark (Ref. 31160).
