Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
Max. size:  15.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 3786 m
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: west of the Cape Verde in the tropical eastern Atlantic; between 20°N 38°N in the north Atlantic; and between 20°S and 30°S in the Southwest Atlantic. One specimen was recorded from the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-21; Anal soft rays: 23-24. Presence of line in luminous tissues (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Mesopelagic (Ref. 27000).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 13 May 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
