Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: northeastern Florida (USA), Bahamas, and Cuba to Brazil; doubtfully from Bermuda.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 22-22; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-20; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 31-31
Biology:  Inhabits patches of sand around coral reefs, seagrass beds, boulders and pilings. Avoids open beaches.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 October 2007 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
