Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Gulf of California to El Salvador.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. This species is distinguished by the following characters: gill rakers on the lower limb of the first branchial arch 11-14 (mode 13, 12 in type specimens); lips small, not enlarged; pectoral fins extending to the third anal spine base; depressed second anal spine extends to caudal peduncle base (Ref. 94655).
Biology:  Inhabits coastal waters and lagoons, preferring areas with sandy bottoms (Ref. 9303, 37955). Forms schools (Ref. 37955). Feeds on small benthic invertebrates, algae and small fishes (Ref. 9303).
