Family:  Percidae (Perches), subfamily: Etheostomatinae
Max. size:  11 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 4 years
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Ohio River basin from southwestern New York to Virginia, eastern Kentucky and southern Indiana in the USA. Only found below Kanawha Falls in Kanawha River system of West Virginia, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabit swift gravel and rubble riffles of small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723). Eggs are found buried in the substrate (Ref. 7043).

Threat to humans:  harmless
