Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5; dH range: 10 - 20
Distribution:  North America: Atlantic and Gulf Slope drainages from New Jersey to central Florida, west to Flint River in Georgia in the USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits vegetated lakes, ponds, quiet sand and mud-bottomed pools and backwaters of creeks and small to medium rivers.
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 29 November 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
