Family:  Serranidae (Sea basses: groupers and fairy basslets)
Max. size:  23 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 178.0 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 9 - 80 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Gulf of California and southern Baja California in Mexico to Peru, including the Galapagos Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sand and mud bottoms. Lives to about 4 years ( reaches 12 cm SL). Feeds on crustaceans. A synchronous hermaphrodite.
