Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Cynoglossinae
Max. size:  46 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 1 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, and East Africa from Kenya to Delagoa Bay, Mozambique; including Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 113-121; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 92-98; Vertebrae: 55-58. Upper side uniformly tan; 2 lateral lines on both sides of body (Ref. 4418).
Biology:  Inhabits muddy or sandy bottoms of the continental shelf (Ref. 30573). Collected from small sand patch among rocks in 0.5 m (Ref. 11441). Feeds on small invertebrates (Ref. 5213).
