Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 345 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina (USA), Bermuda and the northern Gulf of Mexico to the Lesser Antilles (Ref. 5521) and Suriname.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Usually in shallow seagrass beds. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
