Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  62 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 610 - 4000 m
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: off Mauritania in the eastern Atlantic; in the western Atlantic, known from the continental slope and rise between 41° and 31°N, 65° and 78°W, from the Recife area and Mid-Atlantic Ridge between 35° and 45°N. Eastern Pacific: east of Prince Wales Island, Alaska (Ref. 26282) and British Columbia, Canada (Ref. 11980); to south of southern California (Ref. 36385).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2. Body pale; lips, mouth and gill cavity dark (Ref. 6187). Branchiostegal rays: 6-6 (Ref. 36385).
Biology:  Oviparous, with planktonic larvae (Ref. 36385).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 11 July 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
