Family:  Alepocephalidae (Slickheads)
Max. size:  73 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 2400 - 4500 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: southwestern Ireland and Cape Verde. Western Atlantic: Atlantic side of Antilles. Also in the eastern Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 25-27. Brownish in color (Ref. 4736).
Biology:  Benthopelagic (Ref. 96339). Spent females have been bound in May with large ovarian eggs (Ref. 4736). Maximum depth reported taken from Ref. 40643.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 11 July 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
