Family:  Serranidae (Sea basses: groupers and fairy basslets)
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 11 - 101 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina to Cape Canaveral in northeastern Florida, USA and the entire Gulf of Mexico, including Florida Keys.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Prefers hard bottoms at depths of about 55 m.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 August 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
