Distribution:  Southwest Atlantic: Burdwood Bank.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 43-43; Anal soft rays: 35-35. Can be diagnosed from all other congeners by the following combination of characters: vertebrae 45 (9+36), pectoral-fin rays 32, caudal fin rays 10 (1+4/5), radials 4, round ; teeth stout canines, some with small shoulders; chin pores opening in a distinct deep oval pit; dark bar or blotches extending vertically below eye and horizontally in front of it; disk about 2/5 HL; prickles absent; gill opening above pectoral base; head 26.5%; preanal fin length 44.5% SL; snout-anus 34.0 (114.3); anus-anal fin origin 15.7; peritoneum pale (Ref. 78379).
