Family:  Atherinopsidae (Neotropical silversides), subfamily: Menidiinae
Max. size:  11.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-neritic; freshwater; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Río Madre Vieja, Guatemala to Chiriquí Gulf, Panama.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Commonly found in estuaries and sometimes penetrates rivers (Ref. 9273). Food consists mainly of terrestrial insects and fruit (Ref. 36880).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 25 May 2007 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
