Family:  Congridae (Conger and garden eels), subfamily: Bathymyrinae
Max. size:  36.3 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 11 - 63 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: southern Florida to Panama and the Guianas. Eastern Atlantic: Gulf of Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Eye large; preanal lateral line pores 59; dorsal and anal fins with black margin (Ref. 13608). No pores behind eye (Ref. 26938).
Biology:  Inhabits rocky or sandy bottoms (Ref. 26340).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 19 August 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
