Family:  Galaxiidae (Galaxiids), subfamily: Aplochitoninae
Max. size:  33.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  South America: On both sides of the Andes, in Chile from Lake Villarrica south and in Argentina from Lake Lacar south; into Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of South America.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-13
Biology:  Found mostly in lakes, but recent collections from sites close to the sea suggest amphidromy.
