Remarks 'commun'; i.e., common, from Latin 'communis', i.e., of a group (p. 182 in Ref. 9404). The term remora was derived from the Latin name remora meaning hindrance as it was thought that the attachment of these fishes via their unique sucking-dics delayed ships (Ref. 528).
