Remarks | Local fishers believe that kotikw will spawn only if there is heavy rain and rough weather just before the spawning period. Spawning aggregations form in shallow sandy areas inside the reef. The schools move out to spawn in specific sandy spots near the outer reef edge or channel edge. Fishers use dynamite to catch migrating fish that pass through Denges Pass to the outer reef flat southeast of Ngerong Island. Spawning occurs late in the afternoon of the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth day of the lunar month (Ref. 2928). Name refers to an adult stage of the species (Ref. 10494). |
