Locality Brazil, USNM 398292 (neotype)
Distribution Western Atlantic, widespread, including Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico and the eastern coasts of USA, Puerto Rico, Saba, Leeward Islands, Belize, Venezuela, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago; depths up to 183 m, common in <60 m.
