Comment Spinules on the skin is not restricted to this species, as Prokofiev (2008) suggested, but also present in adults of C. pluriradiatus(/i> and asper and juveniles of all species.
Locality Coral Sea.
Distribution Western Pacific: from the region to the southeast from the Kuriles and Pacific coast of Japan to the Coral Sea, 400-1,240 m depth.
Quote Prokofiev (2008:211) diagnosed C. lavenbergi by three characteristics: 'dermal spinelets in adult fishes, fixed teeth in jaws, as a rule, without gill rakers and basibranchial teeth in adult fishes'.’
